SEASON OF CELEBRATIONS
With good spirits in abundance this time of year, UPP wishes everyone laughter and happiness, and may peace prevail in 2010!

SEASON OF MIRACLES
World War I was called the war to end all wars because of the magnitude of slaughter. But on the evening of December 24, 1914, deadly volleys of artillery shells drew silent at the site of a battle between British and German troops. Over the hush, a Christmas hymn was heard. Suddenly rivals from both sides emerged from their trenches. They joined in song, shared cigarettes, toasted and cheered, as hostilities for a brief, joyous interval came to a halt.  It would be another 4 years before the permanent truce brought an end to the madness. Still, rational minds can’t help but wonder why the inspirational moment of that Christmas Eve wasn’t more enduring than the hatred that condemned Europe to devastation.

UPP GLOBAL SOLUTIONS NETWORK
As witnessed by our increasingly diverse community on FaceBook, people from all regions of the world are transcending language barriers and coming together to build new friendships.  While curiosity about each other’s customs and experiences stimulate the majority of dialog, we’re encouraged to find more and more collaborations for solving problems.

Yes, UPP is a vibrant social network. But as one with a powerful conscience, we’re demonstrating a unique ability to accomplish so much more. In the ensuing months following the celebrations of December, let’s each try to put our ambitions for a better world to the test by choosing a cause and supporting it.

DECEMBER’S SPOTLIGHT IS ON COMMUNITY
UPP re-launched this past July at upp.org. Simultaneously, we succeeded in reaching out to a broader global audience through Face book. Together they created extraordinary growth in our community, connected people with mutual agendas regardless of language barriers, bridged cultural differences and advanced humanitarian goodwill.

In addition, cause-based non-profits formed associations, hundreds of new bloggers posted fresh solutions to problems…even a number of notable celebrities came aboard. UPP is catching fire around the globe.  Friends from the neediest parts send e-mails of gratitude for helping address their plight. Your involvement has revived optimism for what’s ahead.  Keep doing what you’re doing.  Each and every one of you is making a difference. UPP joins in thanking you for the enlarged efforts toward creating a better world!

WHY DO WE CALL OURSELVES A “PEACE ENGINE”?
The search for solutions requires that core issues be addressed. UPP contributes to this critical process by inviting ideas for and motivating dialogue with our global network, then presenting a consensus strategy for taking action.  Through popular referendums, we confront obstacles with advanced tools and drivers.   Science & technology, globalization, online governance, human love and compassion are combining to create the new paradigm for progress. Accordingly, enlightened internet communities are more efficiently finding the resources to take greater command of the choices that improve our collective lives.
